OCED: Community calls, extended working group, usage scenarios and target personas

OCED challenge and study community

Announced by the OCED working group

It has been quiet around OCED since ICPM 2024. Behind the scenes, the OCED Working Group has been working hard to develop a roadmap towards standardization. We oversee three major phases:

  1. defining the scope and requirements for the OCED standard;
  2. developing the standard in the process mining community;
  3. achieving the IEEE standard certification.

Our goal is that OCED becomes a true community standard with full support from practitioners, vendors, and researchers. For this reason, we are expanding the structure of the OCED Working Group. The current Core Working Group has been expanded with industry members, specifically vendor representatives. The Core Working Group is responsible for developing the roadmap, proposing solutions, and informing the community. Furthermore, we launched a few initiatives that allow the wider community to get involved in shaping the OCED standard.

The Extended Working Group

We introduced the Extended OCED Working Group: a sounding board to provide validation, use case input, and adoption feedback. It is formed by process mining experts from industry and academia with commitment to see the OCED standard through the IEEE standardization process. Interested to join?

As an Extended OCED Working Group member, we expect that you

  • have experience with Process Mining,
  • participate regularly in the Community Calls (~every 3 months),
  • provide constructive, actionable feedback in a timely manner (expected workload: 4-8 hours every 3 months),
  • focus your feedback on the OCED standardization, and
  • support the ~3-year IEEE standardization plan (including joining IEEE SA as a paying member).

To submit your application, fill in this form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/Ve4prUCm6x

We will ask you the following pieces of information:

  • Your contact information, organization, and role;
  • Why the OCED standardization matters to you;
  • Which OCED information has been most helpful;
  • The expertise and experience you will bring.

The OCED Community Call Series

Also, we inaugurated the first OCED Community Call on November 14. It was the first of a series of regular events online (or in person at ICPM), where we inform the entire community on developments and ideas around OCED, and gather feedback and input.

The OCED Usage Scenario

Last but not least, we have a call to action: We are preparing usage scenarios that outlines the practical scope of OCED. Our goal is to ensure it resonates with all our stakeholders and addresses their needs and expectations. Therefore, we ask you to provide feedback on the usage scenarios to incorporate your needs and opinions on the OCED standard. Are you interested and willing to contribute? Please fill in the form available at https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/tb39zHGPMu:

  • Share your role and organization;
  • Rate the relevance of existing scenarios;
  • Validate the stated goals and pain points;
  • Suggest additions or modifications;
  • Propose new usage scenarios we may have missed.
