ICPM 2024: Some reflections

The sixth International Conference on Process Mining (ICPM 2024) was held at the Technical University of Denmark and took place in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark, from October 14 to October 18, 2024. In the end, 431 attendees registered for the event.
The conference’s research track started on Tuesday with a keynote by Young-Jun Son, James J. Solberg Head and Ransburg Professor of the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University (USA). Prof. Son held a speech on Multi-paradigm, Online, Hierarchical Simulations to Support Process Mining.
The keynote can be re-watched at https://doi.org/10.11583/DTU.27276591. The industry days started on Wednesday, also with a keynote by Martin Klenk (CTO, Celonis) on Operational Excellence Beyond Processes: Expanding the Reach of Process Mining.
Alongside the scientific program and research-track paper presentations, many other activities enriched the conference, fostering collaboration and sparking many new and exciting ideas. On Monday, 13 workshops on a range of process mining topics and applications took place. This year, we introduced a new workshop modality called “fully interactive,” where people can use these events to actually work together on some topics (rather than listening to early results). On Tuesday, the process mining tool demonstrations were presented. On Friday, the Doctoral Consortium provided an excellent opportunity for PhD students to receive early feedback on their process mining research. The industry days happened Wednesday and Thursday with many events, including a keynote, tutorials and training sessions, use case presentations, a hackathon, capability pitches from the sponsors, and the Women in Process Mining luncheon.

We sincerely thank everyone whose excellent work made this conference possible. First and foremost, a heartfelt “thank you” to the superb organizing team at DTU: Andrey Rivkin, Ekkart Kindler, and Ann-Cathrin Dunker. Their efforts in helping with the conference, tackling all possible aspects, and providing invaluable and prompt support have been essential to the conference’s success. We are deeply grateful to the Program Committee Chairs (Xixi Lu, Luise Pufahl, Minseok Song) and all PC members for their involvement and active participation in the review process and subsequent discussions, which were crucial in selecting the best papers for presentation and defining the scientific content of the conference. Our enormous appreciation goes to the Workshop Chairs (Andrea Delgado, Tijs Slaats), Demo Chairs (Giovanni Meroni, Karolin Winter), Doctoral Consortium Chairs (Han van der Aa, Jochen De Weerdt), and Best PhD Dissertation Award Chairs (Artem Polyvyanyy, Chiara Di Francescomarino), as well as the members of the committees for the various satellite events, whose efforts helped create such a rich conference program. Our enormous appreciation and gratitude go to the Industry Chairs (Jean-Marc Erieau, Julian Lebherz, Elham Ramezani) for their extraordinary efforts in making ICPM an exciting event not only for academics or process mining experts but for everyone interested in learning more about process mining. Many thanks to the Nordic Industry Chairs (Thomas Troels Hildebrandt, Hugo-Andres Lopez-Acosta, Mark Bernhard Riis) for their help in connecting with the local businesses. We also want to emphasize the invaluable assistance of the Publicity Chairs (Amine Abbad-Andaloussi, Iris Beerepoot), Digital Infrastructure Chairs (Giovanni Meroni, Francesca Zerbato), and Proceeding Chairs (Alyzia-Maria Konsta, Jens Kanstrup Larsen), whose efforts were crucial in attracting and handling the number of high-quality submissions. We sincerely thank the authors of all papers for their remarkable contributions, which greatly contributed to the success of this conference. Last but not least, we deeply thank all the sponsors for their extensive support, constructive feedback, and help in making ICPM a truly remarkable event.
