Newsletter Stream #2 (05/2020)

Editorial

In February, the Process Mining newsletter stream started with issue #1. Three months after, we are glad to present the second edition, with brand new content, inspiring interviews, and latest announcements.

As you know, the COVID-19 outbreak has deeply changed the way in which conferences, workshops and interactive events alike are held. The Process Mining community took the challenge and is already gaining the first success stories with innovative online means to keep the audience interconnected and engaged from everywhere in the world, with no need to travel. ICPM 2020 will be held in October as a fully virtual event as announced in this newsletter. Celosphere Live 2020 just recently took place in a highly successful free, live web format with more than 17,000 attendees worldwide. Registrations are open and free of charge for the Process Mining Camp 2020, to be held fully online in June. The atmosphere is vibrant, so more information and success stories about these events will be published in the upcoming edition of this newsletter.

In this issue, Pnina Soffer narrates her academic story and describes her view on process mining as a means for cross-cutting process analysis. In 2020, the Apromore business process analytics platform celebrates its 10th anniversary: Marcello La Rosa gives us insights into its history, its memorable and uh-oh moments, its present and future plans. It is also 10 years that precious real-world event logs and process-mining-related questions are available annually with the BPI Challenge: Boudewijn van Dongen gets us through the past nine editions as well as the current one, with behind-the-scenes details. Jan Mendling and Ingo Weber concede us a memorable double interview during which they talk about process mining on blockchains with a fun and friendly style. Bruna Pereira, technical process mining lead at a large Swiss accident insurance company, illustrates her viewpoint on process mining from the end-user perspective. We conclude this issue with two announcements. Massimiliano de Leoni and Alessandro Sperduti describe the new format for ICPM, and Antonella Guzzo announces the new Special Issue on Process Mining and Emerging Applications in the MDPI Algorithms journal.

New issues are upcoming. Your valuable input is always welcome! Please feel free and welcome to contact us at news@tf-pm.org.
